As soon as I heard about another show by Donald P. Bellisario (Magnum, p.i.) I knew I had to check it out. And I was right - JAG is great. Being a show set in the military, I was initially a bit skeptic though, but my worries proved wrong. This show isn't about hero worship, it is just a law and order show set into military surroundings. A crime show, and a courtroom drama; with an excellent cast led by David James Elliot.
This show is good entertainment, its suspense-filled stories presented with little twists, also parodizing other shows like The X-Files. Just like Bellisario's earlier show, Magnum, p.i., the episodes are rarely linked to each other. But the quest for his father evolves into a major story arc starting in late season one (ep. 1.19 'The Prisoner'), thereby giving the show the necessary depth.
JAG is also a show which was resurrected - cancelled after its first season, with that season's finale remaining unaired in the US and thus un-continued, it found another production firm and returned as a mid-season replacement in 1997. I just wonder why that wouldn't be possible with other great shows which have suffered a much too early death, like Space: Above and Beyond and Millennium.
