Introduction

Structures, part of "fire", are what has been created by human spirit. They are the result of the human desire to shape and control nature, to define what is seen needing a definition, to confine what is seen as wild, barbarious, free.

Structures can be many things, reaching from paths to roads to houses to more complex and larger edifices; it can also be human-made artifacts and tools and equipment; in one word, order. But I am not solely interested in portraying the structures as such, I'm always seeking for the interaction with uncontrolled nature, with the organic, with disorder, chaos.

In that sense, structures are supposed to show the way human-made order is set against the much larger and not quite understood equilibrium of chaos and order which is barely described by evolutionary theory. The portrayal of the decay and the barbarization of human structures over time will be an argument trying to put human perspective in human structures in the place it belongs, below the sublime, marginal to it.

The series has been started in 1997, the pictures have been taken with a pretty ordinary camera, no fancy stuff.
