EARLY EDITION

Mysterious situations, shows about paranormal phenomena, or simply just shows with an odd or strange concept have gained some popularity with the success of The X-Files; one of those relatively new shows is Early Edition. What makes it different is its style: It is situated somewhere between comedy and crime show, like Strange Luck also did. It also contains some obligatory conspiratory elements.

Interesting about the show then is its approach, its premise: What would you do if each morning you received the newspaper for the next day, predicting events yet to come? Prevent disasters - but how? And which, if there is a choice? And how to disguise your operations so that you still have some privacy?

The ethical discussion aside, the show is usually very delighting because of its comedial elements, mostly the domain of co-star Fisher Stevens. So it grants us a bit of relief from all the dark-mooded shows accumulating at the turn of the century. And why not combine some philosophical depth with humor?
